Do NPTF threads required a thread tape or sealant?
No, NPTF threads (national pipe taper fuel) also referred to as dry-seal threads - do not require a sealant or thread tape in order to create a leak free connection. NPTF threads have modified thread crests and root designs that allows the threads to "crush together" and form a mechanical seal when tightened during assembly. NPTF is used when sealants cannot be used, such as in fuel and oil lines and hydraulic systems.
